Where am I?
I see colorful flowers blooming in front of my eyes. I see pink parrots flying against the leaden sky.
No, I am not in my hemisphere anymore . I finally fulfilled my dream of exploring the Southern seas.
Here I am, plunged in the fresh sand, trying to write my notes, but endlessly falling in the horizon anew. I come from the South of Italy. The South. After my northern life in London, it was time to come back.
“Vuelvo al Sur,
como se vuelve siempre al amor”
“I return to the South, like one always returns to the love,” sang the mellow voice of the Argentine tango composer Astor Piazzolla. No other song, no other words could better inspire this new adventure.
The divers submerge in the cold water. The fishermen cast their baits in the wind. The kids fearlessly run in the icy waves. It is still low season here, at Flinders, on the Mornington Peninsula, Australia. It is just a cloudy October day. Summer, though, will come soon, here in the Southern part of the world.
A new journey has just begun. Many surprises are behind the corner, down the roads of Australia.
Far away, as I have never been before.
